Switching from the tennis court to the volleyball arena, Alex Eala attended her first local volleyball match—Game Two of the PVL Finals between Creamline and Choco Mucho on Saturday.
Joining the massive crowd of 24,459, Eala found a commonality with the team she was supporting in the title series.
“I have to say, medyo I’m leaning to Creamline kasi yung [physical therapist] ko is also the PT of Creamline,” she said.
Eala mentioned her connection to the team's physical therapist, Haree Jan Rañeses, PTRP, who is currently part of the Cool Smashers’ staff.
Despite the tennis court being her usual domain, Eala enjoyed the break, expressing, “But I think that these two teams have such a good competition and the spirit of being brave, and it’s really inspiring to see and a fun break from my training.”
With the vibrant atmosphere and immense following of volleyball, Eala aspires for Philippine tennis to achieve a similar level of popularity, if not greater.
She expressed her happiness, stating, “I didn’t know what to expect siyempre going to the game, but I’m so happy that this sport [volleyball] is very alive within the Filipino community.”
Eala also shared her dream for tennis to experience the same energetic atmosphere, saying, “Nakaka-inspire siyempre for tennis na sana one day, pangarap ko rin maging ganito yung atmosphere. It’s so nice to see the sportsmanship and the teamwork that they bring on the court.”
