AKARI efficiently swept aside Strong Group, 25-8, 25-15, 25-16, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at PhilSports Arena on Saturday.
Fifi Sharma led the charge with nine points, comprising four attacks and five blocks, as the Chargers concluded their campaign with a 5-6 win-loss record.
“I feel like it’s a good end nga for the team kasi we have been doing progressively better after every conference. So, hopefully, next conference na with hopefully new additions, magi-improve kami as a team and mas magg-gel pa kami,” said Sharma.
“I think the team’s just like trying to break into the higher sections of the teams. So, hopefully, next conference, we’ll achieve that.”
Despite falling short of their semifinal aspirations, team captain Michelle Cobb remains positive about the Chargers' prospects for the upcoming season.
“It’s really [about] ending the season well and we’ve been through a lot of tough losses. So, parang siguro, okay na rin na ganito ‘yung ending namin despite na hindi namin na-achieve ‘yung goal namin this season,” said Cobb. “Again and again, we say na hopefully, this all sparks the process for the Akari and the whole franchise”, she added.
Maintaining dominance on the court, Dindin Manabat led with 12 points, supported by Grethcel Soltones and Faith Nisperos, who contributed nine points each.
Meanwhile, Souzan Raslan emerged as the sole double-digit scorer for Strong Group with 10 points, as the Athletics grappled with a challenging winless conference.
