AKARI recharged its retooled core with the addition of American import Oluoma ‘Oly’ Okaro for the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.

The Chargers unveiled their latest reinforcement on Wednesday morning, shortly after Okaro’s arrival in Manila where she was welcomed by team manager Mozzy Ravena and incoming head coach and director of volleyball operations Taka Minowa.

“The one, the ‘Oly.’ Oluoma "Oly" Okaro will power up the Akari Chargers for the upcoming PVL Reinforced Conference. Chargers Fam, let's all welcome Oly to our ground,” the club wrote.
The 6-foot-1 ace played both opposite hitter and middle blocker roles in her volleyball career to date — one that began in the University of San Francisco in 2014 for two years before another two-year stint at Arizona State University until 2018.
Okaro’s time as a Sun Devil to end her college career saw her named to the US NCAA Pac-12 All-Conference Teams in both beach and indoor volleyball.
Her athletic feats were paired with academic honors as she was feted with the 2015 West Coast Conference Honorable Mention and All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention citations from 2015 to 2016.
She’d then take her talents to Europe to kickstart her pro career in Finland with Hämeenlinna Volleyball Club and in Greece where she last played for ASP Thetis Voulas in the A1 Ethniki Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Okaro’s addition is the cherry on top of Akari's major shake-up with sister team Nxled as they will be boosted even further by ex-Chameleons Ivy Lacsina, Kamille Cal, Camille Victoria, and the returning Dani Ravena.
Akari looks to light up the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference following back-to-back seventh-place finishes with its conference-opening clash on July 18 against Capital1, 4 p.m. at the PhilSports Arena.
