AKARI is reshuffling its backline in a major way, parting ways with two of its mainstay liberos in one move.

Dani Ravena and Max Juangco have both left the Chargers as of Monday, leaving a noticeable void in the team’s defensive core.

Ravena’s departure comes as the more surprising development.

Aside from being the daughter of Akari team manager Mozzy Ravena, she was also one of the last remaining holdovers from the franchise’s inaugural roster in 2022.

The former Ateneo standout had been part of the team since its entry in the PVL, making her exit a significant shift in identity for the Chargers.

In an Instagram story, Ravena bid farewell to the only pro team she has played for.

“Beyond grateful for the four years. Akari will always be home,” she wrote. “Thank you Sir Chris [Tiu] and the entire Tiu family for making this girl’s dreams come true. On to the next!”

Juangco, meanwhile, also closes her chapter with Akari after two years.

She played a key role in the Chargers’ rise, contributing to all three of the team’s podium finishes alongside Ravena, including two bronze medals and one silver.

Known as one of the squad’s top defensive options, her role eventually shifted following the arrival of Justine Jazareno forom La Salle.

With plans to return to Japan to be with her family, Juangco decided to step away from the team.

“Can’t believe two years went by this fast. Thank you, Akari, for being my first team and for being part of the person I’m becoming,” she said.

“Every moment meant something because of the people beside me. Didn’t realize we were making memories I’d miss this much.”

Their exits leave Jazareno and converted spiker Judith Abil as the remaining liberos on Akari’s roster, but the timing of the moves could signal something bigger.

With veteran Dawn Catindig now a free agent following Cignal’s leave of absence, and decorated UAAP libero Detdet Pepito expected to enter the 2026 PVL Draft, Akari may be positioning itself for a high-profile addition to anchor its defense moving forward.
