PHILIPPINE Air Force completed the semifinal cast of the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference, disposing of Meralco, 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22, on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Former University of Santo Tomas skipper Judy Ann Caballejo came away with 21 points from 16 spikes, one block and four service aces for Air Force, while Joy Cases added 17, UST teammate Maika Ortiz contributed 11 and Wendy Semana chipped in 10.
"Kailangan namin itong panalong ito, pang-secure (sa spot sa semifinals)," said Air Force coach Clarence Esteban. "Kahit papano 'yung mga paghiirap ng mga bata nagbunga na."
After a poor opening salvo, the Air Women dominated the remaining sets to join Cagayan, Army and Smart in the Final Four.
"Mabagal kasi ang start ng mga players ko, gusto ko simula pa lang hundred percent na sila agad," said Esteban.
Down by five, 12-17, in the fourth set, the Power Spikers came up with a 7-3 spurt to cut down the deficit, 19-20.
But Cases and Caballejo scored on back-to-back spikes as the Air Women pulled away to seal the victory.
Chinese import Coco Wang finished with 20 points, while team captain Maureen Penetrante-Ouano and Stephanie Mercado added 16 and 11, respectively, for the Power Spikers.
Meralco bowed out with a 1-7 win-loss card.
