AIR Force defeated Pacifictown-Army, 28-26, 25-20, 26-28, 26-24, to end its PVL Open Conference campaign on a high note on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Veteran hitter Judy Caballejo and middle blocker Dell Palomata led the way as the Lady Jet Spikers pounced on a Lady Troopers squad missing star spiker Jovelyn Gonzaga and coach KungFu Reyes, who are with the Philippine women’s volleyball team in training in Japan.
Caballejo and Palomata finished with 15 kills each as Air Force had 59 attacks.
Joy Cases scored 13, May Ann Pantino had 10 markers, 25 digs and 20 excellent receptions, while Wendy Semana dished out 19 excellent sets on top of eight points as Air Force finished the tournament in fifth place at 7-9.
“Minotivate ko sila na hindi tayo pwede matalo wala yung isang pamato nila jan si Jovelyn tsaka ito yung time na pagkakataon natin makabawi sa kanila dahil tinalo kami sa AFP Olympics, sila nagchampion,” said Air Force head coach Jasper Jimenez.
“Itong (PVL) game kahit placing na lang pride pa rin. Kailangan natin manalo dito.”
Royse Tubino led Army with 14 points. Nene Bautista scored 12 and Jem Gutierrez added 11.
Joanne Bunag added 10 markers and 21 digs for the Lady Troopers, who ended the conference with six straight losses for a 6-10 record.
