ROOKIE Lucille Almonte scored the final three points for Adamson in a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11 squaker over University of Santo Tomas in the first match of the PVL Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
The outside hitter from Kings’ Montessori School asked for the ball in the crucial moments as the Lady Falcons took the win in two hours and 13 minutes.
“Sinasabihan ko lang sila na kahit ano mangyari itaas lang nila, ako na gagawa ng paraan,” said Almonte, who finished with 15 points.
League scoring leader Trisha Genesis had 21 points, while making 20 excellent receptions and 16 digs for Adamson.
Ceasa Pinar had 16 points, while Lorene Toring provided seven of the team’s 13 blocks and finished with 15 points.
Rookie Louie Romero dished out 33 excellent sets, while libero Cae Lazo had 29 digs.
“Yung mental toughness tsaka yung dibdib nila at puso nila handang lumaban. Nakita ko doon talagang nung fifth set,” said Adamson coach Lerma Giron.
“Sabi ko sa kanila, they’re the one who will decide kung mananalo sila o hindi. Maganda yung response nila talagang nagdecide sila sa sarili nila, bawat bola na binibitawan nila nilalagay nila sa tamang pwesto.”
The second match of the best-of-three series is set on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Eya Laure led the Tigresses with 19 points and 25 digs, while elder sister, EJ had 15 points and 12 digs.
Rookie Imee Hernandez scored 15 markers for UST.
