THE Adamson Lady Falcons became the second team to reach the semifinals and remained as the lone unbeaten team with an immaculate 5-0 win-loss record in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference.
But after handing the first loss of erstwhile undefeated UST, 15-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-20, on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan City, Adamson Head Coach Air Padda was not convinced.
“Today we won, but we don’t feel like we won,” Padda said. “We didn't take advantage with (Eya) Laure not playing today. I expected my team to take advantage of it and I don’t think we did. Thankful for the win, still our defense is saving us again.”
The American coach, once again, rued on the inconsistency of her wards from the hitters, middle blockers and setter MJ Igao as they allowed their foes to trim their big leads in each set they played.
“I just think we’re still really inconsistent. I think when my team gets lead, they tend to get really complacent and they just over relax,” Padda lamented. “They haven’t found, the right balance of playing hard, staying focused and having fun. It’s like sometime they turn into like toddlers out there and then they get too careless.”
“A ten-point lead gets cut down to five because we make errors and then the five-point lead gets cut down to zero before they realize it, the other team is back in it,” she added. “It happens a lot, way too much. For us, I think our weakest link is our setter and I know it’s hard for the hitters to like get in a groove and kinda feel good about their play.”
The Lady Falcons took all four UAAP teams FEU, UP and UST but Padda said “they’re not gonna brag about it.”
“It was big for this conference but as far as the UAAP that’s not the same team that we’re gonna be playing,” she said. “So even if we lost today, it wouldn’t been like the end of the world because I know we’re gonna see all these UAAP teams in the semis, I don’t know who we’re gonna play and I know everyone’s team is gonna be stronger when we played for the first time.”
“We know that everybody’s team is really weak right now, including ours like the other team don’t have people. Our people are here but we’re not utilizing them because we haven’t found that team jell,” she added.
Adamson plays back-to-back games as it battles San Beda University (1-4) on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Padda stressed that it will be good for her team.
“It’s a quick turnaround but honestly we need it, we need to play tomorrow because it’s like we need to bawi quickly so I’m happy that we actually have to play San Beda tomorrow,” she concluded. “Maybe we can go into tomorrow’s game hungrier to make up how we’re feeling right now.”
