ADAMSON University shoots for the last semifinals berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference as it faces early qualifier University of Santo Tomas Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons moved a win away for clinching a berth into the next round Tuesday when they turned back the Davao Lady Agilas in straight sets, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15, to level their record at 1-1 and the solo second place in Group 1.
With Bhebs Pineda and Thai reinforcement Pacharee Sangmuang again leading the way, the Lady Falcons hope to carry the momentum of their huge win over the Agilas in their 4 p.m. encounter with the Tigresses.
A win by Adamson automatically complete the semifinals cast, while slamming the door on the hopes of Ateneo and Davao, which are currently tied with similar 1-2 records in Group 1.
A loss however, meant creating a three-way tie among the Lady Eagles, Lady Agilas, and Lady Falcons at 1-2, necessitating two playoff games.
In which case, Ateneo takes a bye and faces the winner of the do-or-die encounter between Adamson and Davao.
Second generation athletes Pam Lastimosa, Ria Meneses, and rookie sensation EJ Laure are again at the helm of the Tigresses’ campaign.
Meanwhile, defending champion National University tangles with also-ran College of St. Benilde in the first game at 2 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-0) will rely on siblings Dindin and Jaja Santiago, Aiko Urdas, and Myla Pablo as the title holders are looking to finish the quarterfinals with a perfect record.
Jannine Navarro and team captain Therese Veronas banner the bid of the Lady Blazers, who are still winless but aim to play the spoiler’s role against NU.
NU and Far Eastern University have already the two semifinals berth in Group II.
