APPLICATIONS for the 2026 PVL Rookie Draft will begin on April 20, with the selection proceedings slated for early June as the league rolls out the third edition of its annual selection process.
Introduced in 2024, the rookie draft has become a central mechanism in leveling the playing field across the league, allowing teams to build from within by tapping into the country’s deep collegiate and amateur pool.

The first two stagings have already produced franchise-altering picks.
ZUS Coffee made history by selecting Thea Gagate as the No. 1 overall pick in the inaugural 2024 draft, addressing its need for a dominant presence at the net.
In 2025, Capital1 followed with its own cornerstone move, choosing Bella Belen at the top spot, banking on the decorated spiker’s two-way brilliance to anchor its long-term plans.

With applications opening on April 20 and the draft set for early June, focus now shifts to the incoming class of aspirants looking to make the jump to the professional ranks and carve out their place in the PVL.
Rookie drafts?
The league’s steady progress, however, comes alongside uncertainty on the national team front.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) had earlier floated the idea of an Alas Pilipinas draft, a system aimed at organizing and streamlining the selection of players for the national pool.
Under the proposal, players who enter the Alas draft would no longer be eligible to join the PVL Draft, as they would be required to commit to the national program for a minimum of two years.
Only after completing that stint can those players consider re-applying for the PVL Draft, effectively creating a separate pathway that prioritizes national team development over immediate entry into the pro ranks.
To date, that plan still hangs in the balance as far as the framework and rollout timeline are concerned.
