A disheartened Galeries Tower side absorbed defeat for the fourth time in as many matches to begin the PVL’s longest season yet.
After a few near-misses, the Highrisers had its most lopsided loss yet when it got swept by ZUS Coffee, 22-25, 16-25, 19-25.
The result wasn’t the only reason why the winless squad are still in low spirits.
Prior to its most recent loss, Galeries mourned the loss of its longtime ballboy Jeric Importante. They paid tribute to the late team staff by wearing white ribbons on their heads.
Veteran libero Alyssa Eroa emphasized how big a role Importante played during his time with the team.
“Utility po talaga namin siya tapos parang nung first conference ko sa Galeries, nandun talaga siya. ‘Di ko rin alam kung gaano na siya katagal, pero sa lahat po talaga ng bagay or sa araw araw po naming may ensayo, siya po talaga ‘yung kasama namin,” Eroa said.
“Kahit wala na ‘yung coaches, siya ‘yung naiiwan sa team kasi nagaayos pa. Siya ‘yung nagaasikaso ng food namin, tapos ng mga gamit.”
Lost cause?
The mood in the Highrisers’ dugout was somber and almost helpless, even just four games into the five-month-long conference.
Her admission was nothing short of frank and honest.
“‘Di ko na alam anong mindset eh. ‘Di ko na alam saan kami huhugot ng lakas, parang ‘yung pinaka-worst na game namin dito lumabas eh. Parang itong game ‘yung pinaka-worst talaga,” the Galeries Tower libero bared.
“Halos lahat po or wala pong may gustong magsalita. May team member na nga po kaming nawala, parang dinamdam namin talaga ‘yung pagkawala niya na dapat ilaban namin ‘yung game [para sa kanya], pero mas lalo kaming nagluksa.”
