POWER Smashers stunned defending champion Pocari Sweat, 25-9, 25-22, 25-21, in the opener of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Arellano University standouts Regine Arocha and Jovelyn Prado led the Power Smashers, who also played without imports as they have yet to secure International Transfer Certificates.
Arocha scored 12, Prado added 11 points, while University of Sto. Tomas hitter Mary Dominique Pacres added 10.
Power Smashers coach Nes Pamilar was pleased to see the locals step up when they learned the imports will not be able to play.
Power Smashers joined BaliPure in the early lead.
Jeanette Panaga scored 12 points, while Myla Pablo added 10 for Pocari Sweat.
