FAR Eastern University coach George Pascua was pleased with the defense of the Lady Tamaraws that locked down UAAP Season 80 top scorer Sisi Rondina to sweep their way past University of Santo Tomas, 25-16, 25-22, 25-25-20, on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
In fact, he was in such a good mood Pascua didn't mind his own top hitter Bernadeth Pons getting outplayed by Rondina.
“Magaling siya [Pons] kay Sisi [Rondina]. Syempre player ko ‘yan. Love your own,” said Pascua, even as Pons' stats (seven points, nine digs) was less impressive compared to Rondina (11 markers, 11 digs).
Kidding aside, the FEU coach remained impressed with Rondina's scoring ability with a league-best 23.33 points per game, but was glad the Lady Tams defense was able to hold her to 12 points below her average.
“Hindi, magaling din talaga si Sisi. Nanggigil lang,” he quickly countered.
Pascua shared that it was their game plan to contain the UST energizer bunny.
“Pinag-aralan namin ‘yun, sabi ko nga 70 percent (ng atake ng UST) kay Sisi,” he said. “Priority si Sisi sa block then itinapat namin si Sisi kay (Celine) Domingo saka kay Kyle (Negrito).”
