THE Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has formally moved to appeal the suspension imposed by the FIVB, saying it has completed an internal review and is now finalizing its response before the world governing body’s appeals process.
In a statement released Friday, the federation acknowledged the decision handed down by the FIVB Board of Administration and said it remains committed to addressing the issues raised through the proper channels.
“The federation takes this matter seriously and remains committed to addressing all concerns raised through the proper processes and channels established by the FIVB,” the PNVF said.
The federation revealed that it has already completed its review of the matters cited in the suspension notice and has forwarded its findings and supporting documents to legal counsel.
“At present, PNVF has completed an internal review of the matters cited in the suspension notice and has submitted its findings and supporting documentation to its legal counsel for evaluation and preparation of the federation’s formal appeal,” the statement read.
The move comes days after the FIVB suspended the federation with immediate effect over governance concerns and alleged violations of the FIVB Code of Ethics currently under investigation by the independent FIVB Ethics Panel.
The sanctions have since spilled over locally, with the Philippine Sports Commission freezing PNVF funding while Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino earlier disclosed that the POC was also set to suspend the federation and assume a caretaker role over Philippine volleyball affairs.
For now, the PNVF is keeping its defense private.
“Given that the appeal process is currently being finalized, the federation believes it would be inappropriate to publicly discuss the specific allegations and evidence at this time. PNVF remains respectful of the integrity of the process and the institutions involved.”
The federation likewise defended its current leadership, stressing that it remains committed to volleyball development despite the crisis.
It added that since assuming office in November 2025, it has continued supporting national team activities, grassroots programs, age-group initiatives, and international hosting obligations while addressing what it described as inherited governance, operational, contractual, and financial issues.
As the appeal process moves forward, the federation urged the volleyball community to allow the case to run its course, expressing confidence that all relevant facts and documents will be evaluated through the proper channels.
For now, the future of Philippine volleyball governance hinges on whether the PNVF can successfully overturn one of the most significant sanctions ever imposed on a national sports association.
