MIKO Vargas has resigned from the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Executive Board, ending a five-year stint with the country’s governing body for volleyball.
Vargas informed the board of his “irrevocable resignation” on Tuesday, effective immediately, saying he could no longer devote the time and active participation required of a federation executive.
“Since early this year, I have found myself unable to dedicate the time, energy, and active participation toward the role of PNVF Executive Board member demands,” Vargas wrote.
Vargas is the son of respected sports leader Ricky Vargas, a longtime figure in Philippine basketball and boxing administration whose influence has extended across several major sports organizations.
His service to the PNVF spanned the administrations of former president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara and current PNVF chief Tonyboy Liao.
The outgoing board member also stressed that his departure should not be taken as a withdrawal of support for the sport, saying he remains committed to helping volleyball’s growth in his personal capacity.
His resignation comes as the PNVF faces mounting pressure following a series of controversies involving the national team program and federation leadership.
However, Vargas was not among the nine PNVF board members who earlier signed a letter withdrawing their support for Liao.
He now becomes the first key figure to leave the organization during a period of heightened scrutiny surrounding the sport’s national governing body.
