THE Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) elections have been declared compliant by the FIVB's legal department, marking another step in the national body’s efforts to move on from its leadership squabble.
In a letter dated November 2, 2026, the FIVB informed the PNVF that its legal department found that the PNVF election documents and process were compliant with the international body’s legal and administrative requirements.
“The FIVB hereby informs you that the election process at the Philippine National Volleyball Federation satisfies the legal and administrative requirements in compliance with the FIVB Regulations,” the letter, signed by FIVB Head of Legal and General Counsel Stephen Bock, read.
The FIVB said it would update its official records, including the PNVF’s entry in its website directory.
Frank Lao was elected PNVF president on August 10 following the resignation of the previous board, taking over a federation that initially ousted Tats Suzara as president and basically abandoned his successor, Tonyboy Liao, after its suspension.
The FIVB suspended the PNVF on May 29, citing governance issues and violations of its Code of Ethics. The suspension prompted the formation of an ad hoc committee to oversee the federation’s affairs allied with the Philippine Olympic Committee.
The situation shifted in August, when the FIVB provisionally accepted the election results and lifted the suspension, subject to the PNVF’s continued compliance with an eight-point governance and development roadmap.
The roadmap covers key areas of reform, including financial obligations, conflict-of-interest policies, athlete representation, grassroots development and a long-term national team program.
The November 2 letter completes the FIVB’s legal and administrative review of Lao’s election, with the PNVF still required to comply with the eight-point roadmap attached to the lifting of its suspension.
The federation’s progress on those remaining requirements will determine its next steps in fully restoring its standing within the international volleyball community.
