PLDT kept its spotless record in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix after beating RC Cola, 25-13, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, at the Ynares Sports Arena on Friday.
American imports Savannah Noyes and Kaylee Manns played a big part in the Speed Boosters’ fourth straight win as they came through with 22 and 16 points, respectively, including seven service aces by Manns.
Sue Roces was the lone local player to finish in double figures for the team with 14.
They Said It!
“Sa totoo lang di ako masaya sa nangyari sa amin. Kaya nga kami kumuha ng import para tulungan kami manalo, hindi `yung sila ang magpapanalo (sa team)." - PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb
Despite his team keeping the top spot, PLDT coach Gorayeb wasn’t happy about how the Speed Boosters performed.
"Sa totoo lang di ako masaya sa nangyari sa amin," he lamented. "Kaya nga kami kumuha ng import para tulungan kami manalo, hindi `yung sila ang magpapanalo (sa team).”
The outspoken mentor is obviously referring to local stalwarts Lou Ann Latigay, Angela Benting, Charo Soriano, and Nica Guliman who finished with a combined 21 points.
Gorayeb also pointed out to several errors committed by the Speed Boosters, which RC Cola converted into instant points.
"Masyado kami madaming errors. Biruin mo nagbigay kami ng 12 errors sa second set. Imbes na mag-improve parang bumaba pa," he said.
"Pero okay na rin. Medyo relax na kami sa Sunday either one or two (finish) nasa semis na kami."
Thai import Sontaya Kaewbundit produced 17 points for RC Cola, while Chinese reinforcement Minghua Zhang chipped in 10.
The Raiders are at the bottom of the standings with a 0-4 mark.
