PLDT MyDSL bounced back from a disappointing loss in the semifinals, downing Cagayan Valley, 25-17, 25-21, 25-23, on Wednesday to bag the bronze medal in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at Ynares Sports Arena.
American reinforcements Savannah Noyes and Kaylee Manns had 14 points each for the Lady Speed Boosters, while Sue Roces added nine and Maru Banaticla had eight.
While third place is a huge improvement from fifth in the maiden conference, head coach Roger Gorayeb could not hide his frustration. PLDT MyDSL had swept its elimination round matches before bowing to Cignal in the semifinals.
"Sayang talaga," he said. "Pero ok na rin compared sa nakaraan ok na yan."
"At least makapag-bigay kami ng medal sa kanila, although mas gusto namin ang Finals," he added.
Down by two sets, Cagayan looked set to extend the match after a 7-1 spurt to put up a 19-16 lead.
But PLDT MyDSL regained control and countered with a 5-1 mini run to finish the game.
The Lady Speed Boosters outplayed the Lady Rising Suns as they registered more service aces (7-0) and defended the net well (10-4).
PLDT MyDSL finished the conference with a 5-1 record, its lone loss coming in the round of four to Cignal, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-27, 14-16.
Thai import Wanida Kotruang and skipper AnggeTabaquero had 11 points each for the Lady Rising Suns, who had a 3-4 win-loss card for the conference.
