PLDT MyDSL recovered from a sluggish start to turn back Cignal, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-14, on Wednesday in their opening match in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at Ynares Sports Arena.
The Lady Speed Boosters had a balanced scoring led by American import Savannah Noyes, who made 16 points from 11 spikes and four block points, while Sue Roces added 14 and skipper Lou Ann Latigay and Kaylee Manns chipped in with 11 apiece.
“Ang advantage namin is nakakausap namin sila ng diretso ng hindi kami dumadaan sa interpreter,” said PLDT MyDSL mentor Roger Gorayeb.
The veteran mentor, however, did not like their slow start as they collapsed in the second set.
“Super slow start yung first set namin. Pagdating sa second set maganda ang simula pero nawala namin,” he said.
The Lady Speed Boosters also slipped in the fourth set and the HD Spikers took a 10-5 lead, but they recovered with a 13-2 run to grab the upper hand, 18-2.
Michelle Datuin stopped the bleeding for Cignal but PLDT MyDSL proved steadier as it scored seven of the last points of the match to seal the victory.
Only the Chinese reinforcements finished in double digits for Cignal as Li Zhangzhang came away with 17 points and Lei Xie produced 15.
