    PLDT Home glad to pitch in as Philippine team vies in Asian Under-23 Volleyball wars

    THE Philippines once again looks to stamp its mark on the continental level as the 2015 Asian Women’s Under-23 Volleyball Championship gets underway on Friday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

    UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez heads the star-studded Philippine squad in the tournament featuring 12 teams including powerhouse China and South Korea.

    Ateneo’s Jia Morado, Bea de Leon, Rissa Sato, Jhoanna Maraguinot and late addition Ella de Jesus are also suiting up for the Philippines in the tournament being backed by PLDT Home, which also supported the Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship last year.

    Also in the national team are National University stars Jaja Santiago and Myla Pablo, FEU’s Tin Agno, San Sebastian’s Gretchel Soltones and UST’s Ria Meneses and EJ Laure.

    The team is coached by multi-titled Roger Gorayeb, with Lady Eagles mentor Anusorn “Tai” Bundit as consultant.

    As the country hosts a prestigious international volleyball event for the second straight year, PLDT HOME Ultera is once again on hand to help make the undertaking a success.

    “Our involvement in the 2015 Asian Women’s Under-23 tournament continues this thrust and it is our hope that our countrymen come out and cheer for our girls with all their hearts,” said Ariel Fermin, PLDT executive vice president and Head of HOME Business.

    The team will indeed need the boost from the home crowd as it begins the campaign against Iran in the opener and Kazakhstan the next day.

    “Our participation in this momentous event highlights our PLDT HOME Ultera Install Patrol nationwide tour, where we brought the country’s top volleyball superstars to places like Cavite, Pampanga, Iloilo, Bacolod and Palawan among others,” said Gary Dujali, PLDT vice president and head of marketing.

    “The tour does not only provide greater access to broadband but supports the sport through volleyball clinics and exciting exhibition games. It is great to see the growth of the sport in such a short span of time.”

    China is grouped with India and Macau, while Japan plays the preliminaries against Chinese Taipei and Maldives. South Korea, Thailand and Uzbekistan are in the so-called “Group of Death” of the nine-day tournament powered by PLDT Home Ultera, the ultra fast LTE for a happy family with speeds up to 10MBPs for as low as P999 a month.

    The last two matches of each game day will be aired live over TV5/AksyonTV, while PLDT HOME subscribers may watch via livestreaming on their PCs, Telpad and Tvolution.
