NATIONAL team-powered PLDT Home TVolution-Air Force had a short workout Wednesday against Instituto Estetico Manila, scoring a 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 win to start the second round elimination of the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at the Astrodome.
Ranran Abdilla had a game-high 16 points, while Ron Jay Galang added 10 for PLDT, which remained unbeaten in five games.
Abdilla is one of national team players currently in the PLDT lineup along with Jeffrey Malabanan, JP Torres, Jason Ramos, liberos Raffy Mosuela and Arvin Avila, and veteran setter Ian Fernandez, all of whom were part of the Philippine squad that placed seventh in the Asian Men's Volleyball Club Championship on April.
“May height advantage kasi kami pero ang advantage talaga namin national team kasi ang composition ng team namin kaya ang level ng laro nila mataas, kaya 'yang ganyang laro ang ine-expect ko sa kanila,” said PLDT coach Jasper Jimenez.
The PSL Grand Prix champion sparked on both ends of the floor as it dominated the net and came with more blocks (13-9) and had more excellent digs (27-17) in a match that took only 74 minutes to finish.
Karl dela Calzada had 11 points for IEM, which absorbed its fourth consecutive loss after winning to Via Mare.
