PLDT Home TVolution-Air Force recovered from a sluggish start and demolished erstwhile undefeated Cignal, 23-25, 25-11, 25-10, 25-14, to keep its record perfect in the men's division of the Philippine Super
Liga All-Filipino Conference at Astrodome on Wednesday night.
Ranran Abdilla led the Power Attackers with 23 points, while fellow national teammates Ron Jay Galang and Jeffrey Malabanan added 12 and 11 markers each for PLDT, which improved to a 3-0 (win-loss) record and grabbed the solo lead in the standings.
Rodolfo Labrador added 12 also for the Power Attackers.
“Slow start kami. Mabuti na lang naka-adjust kami sa second, third. and fourth set," said PLDT coach Jasper Jimenez.
After losing the opening set, PLDT turned the heat in the second racing to a 15-3 lead before closing out the set with a 15-point margin.
Tied in the fourth set at 8-8, the Power Attackers came through with an 11-2 run, including six straight hits by Abdilla, to leave Cignal behind, 19-10, and never looked back.
"In-expect ko itong ganitong klase ng laro," said Jimenez. "Kasi hindi naman sa pag mamayabang, angat kami. Karamihan sa amin dito national team. Mabuti naman na 'yung ine-expect sa amin napapatunayan namin."
The Power Attackers sparked on both ends of the floor as they won the battle at the net by scoring more blocks, 8-5, and capitalizing on the HD Spikers' poor reception, while registering nine service aces
compared to none by Cignal.
PLDT recorded 28 excellent digs, while Cignal only had seven.
Jessie Lopez came away with 30 of the team's 38 perfect sets against 18 of the HD Spikers.
Howard Mojica had 13 markers and gilbert Ablan added 12 for Cignal, which suffered its first loss for a 2-1 slate.
