BRYAN Bagunas and Marck Espejo combined for 35 points as Rebisco-Philippines swept Easytrip-Raimol, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23, in the 2019 Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference on Tuesday at Paco Arena.
The past two UAAP MVPs finally played for the first time since May 23 and came up with explosive performances, with Bagunas putting up 19 points off 14 attacks, four aces and a block, while Espejo finished with 16 points.
“Ngayon lang kami nakumpleto, pero siyempre fourteen pa rin ‘yung nag laro kanina, sabi ko nga kung sino pa ‘yung pwedeng ipasok lahat para madevelop talaga ‘yung communication sa loob,” said Philippines head coach Dante Alinsunurin.
Red Christensen scored 11 for Easytrip, winless in nine matches including the exhibition with the nationals.
Bagunas also led the charge for Go For Gold-Air Force in beating Sta. Elena, 25-22, 25-22, 26-28, 29-27, for their sixth consecutive victory.
Bagunas had 22 points off 18 attacks, two aces and two blocks.
Ranran Abdilla contributed 18 points, while Kim Malabunga put up seven blocks in his 16 points as Air Force seized second place with its eighth victory in nine matches.
“Ang Sta. Elena kasi, buo na team ‘yan, saka mga bata, so ibig sabihin masisigla [sila], hindi basta basta napapagod, merong gelling din ‘yung mga players,” said Air Force coach Rhovyl Verayo.
Berhashidin Daymil scored 15 and Edward Camposano added 14 points for Sta. Elena, which suffered its fourth loss in nine matches.
PLDT Home Fibr outlasted Navy, 25-22 25-18, 29-27, to stay in third place with a 7-2 slate.
Mark Alfafara led the Power Hitters with 12 points on nine attacks, two aces and a block, while Peter Quiel added nine markers.
Greg Dolor scored18 for Navy, eighth in the standings with a 4-5 record.
