PHILIPPINE volleyball stakeholders have been asked to sign an 11-point Affidavit of Undertaking during the general assembly called by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Monday.

The two-page affidavit drafted by the POC commits all clubs, teams and leagues to a full commitment to the national team program of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) once its FIVB suspension is lifted.

One line in the document reads that all signatories commits to "recognize that the national interest shall always take precedence over the interests of any club, league, commercial entity, sponsor, or personal agenda."

One source told SPIN.ph that all of the around 40 former PNVF board members and stakeholders present during the meeting signed the document.

However, another source bared that no one among the men present to represent the 'prime movers' of volleyball in the country signed, feeling the undertaking is "so one-sided in favor of the PNVF which has promised nothing in return."

The affidavit requires signatories to:

  • Acknowledge that the development, preparation, and success of the Philippine national volleyball team is a matter of national interest and of paramount importance
  • Recognize that the national interest shall always take precedence over the interests of any club, league, commercial entity, sponsor, or personal agenda
  • Fully support the federation in the selection, training, preparation, and participation of national athletes and coaches in international competitions, including the SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympic Games, Olympic qualifiers, and other FIVB events
  • Refrain from preventing, delaying, influencing, pressuring, or otherwise interfering with the participation of any athlete or coach called up for national team duty
  • Immediately release athletes and coaches under their supervision once officially summoned by the federation, unless otherwise authorized
  • Avoid actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest involving the national team
  • Refrain from any action that undermines the unity, preparation, performance, or welfare of the national team
  • Cooperate in good faith with federation policies, schedules, and directives involving national team activities
  • Uphold unity, professionalism, integrity, and excellence in Philippine volleyball by placing national interests above competing priorities

The general assembly held at the Solaire Theater also saw all members of the present PNVF board tender their courtesy resignations as the POC continues to hold stewardship over the national volleyball federation until the ban is lifted by the FIVB.

With the resignations, the POC said it will organize a new 13-member board that will include representatives from the UAAP and NCAA, men's indoor volleyball and women's beach volleyball as well as an athletes' representative.

The POC, which by the way recently tasked ousted PNVF chief Ramon 'Tats' Suzara as CEO of the first-ever Southeast Asian Plus Youth Games that it will host in 2027, said it will have one seat in the new PNVF board.
