LIPA CITY — PetroGazz made short work of Baguio City, 25-10, 25-13, 25-10, in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League on Saturday at the Aquamarine Sports Complex.
Ces Molina scored 12 points on eight attacks, three aces and a block, while Grethcel Soltones fired four aces, finishing with eight markers.
Petro Gazz took the win in 63 minutes.
Jerrili Malabanan had seven points on top of four digs, while Myla Pablo had six points while playing only in the second set.
“Sabi ko sa mga players may dalawang tendencies yan either maiistarstruck or dahil nakalaban nila ang mga idols nila pwedeng ichallenge tayo niyan na walang pressure,” Petro Gazz head coach Arnold Laniog told reporters.
Ces Molina and the Angels are off to a strong start
Soltones and Co. made sure not to underestimate the visiting team, which committed 25 errors.
“Meron din naman silang taglay na galing kasi hindi naman porket mas matanda kami, kami na yung lamang,” said Soltones during the post-match interview. “From there, may matutunan sila sa amin pati kami may matutunan sa kanila.”
Mary Ann Atuban and Blesie Royo had six points each for Baguio, which nailed 19 attacks against Petro Gazz’s 32 kills.
Cherry Atuban had only four excellent sets getting outplayed by veteran Chie Saet, who made 13 for the Angels.
