PERPETUAL Help foiled a huge fightback by Emilio Aguinaldo College, winning in five tough sets on Monday at The Arena in San Juan to clinch its fourth straight NCAA men's volleyball title.
Jay de la Cruz poured in 24 points as the Altas won, 25-22, 26-24, 18-25, 23-25, 15-13, to deny Emilio Aguinaldo College in the title series for the second consecutive year.
Edmar Sanchez and Bonjomar Castel chipped in 14 apiece for the Altas, who remained unbeaten in 47 games dating back to Season 86.
De la Cruz added the Finals MVO title to his season MVP crown.
"Hindi ko expected na magiging sobrang excellent siya (De la Cruz) because medyo off siya," said Altas coach Sammy Acaylar. "I told him na mag-stand out ka as a team captain. Not only sa skills, pati sa puso
niya."
League Best Scorer Howard Mojica exploded with 41 points, but that was not enough to extend the series for the Generals.
Kerth Melliza had 11 points, while Ser Angel Guardian and Hariel Doguna had 10 apiece for EAC.
