    Perpetual Help spikers score twinkill over Letran

    PERPETUAL Help scored a twinkill over Letran and its volleyball teams pulled off quick wins in the 98th NCAA volleyball tournament on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

    Two-time defending titlist Lady Altas took only 55 minutes to oust Letran, 25-13, 25-12, 25-19.

    Reigning MVP Norie Diaz came up with 15 points, with 10 sevice aces, while Honey Tubino added 13 and Ana Diocareza had 10 for Perpetual Help.

    Maebelline Medina and Patricia Belleza finished with five markers each for the Lady Knights.

    Perpetual Help now has a 4-2 card, while already eliminated Letran is winless in six matches.

    The Altas, meanwhile, dominated the Knights in the men's action, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13, for their sixth win in as many outings.

    The Las Piñas-based squad had a quick workout, with Edmar Sanchez scoring 12 points, Rex Castro and Bonjomar Castel adding nine each, and Ralph Savellano and Jay de la Cruz both finishing with eight.

    Three-time defending champion Altas also defended the net well, with 10 blocks against four by the Knights. Perpetual Help also had seven service aces against Letran’s one.

    Rudy Gatdula made 10 for Letran, which now has an even record 2-2.

    Emilio Aguinaldo College took only 50 minutes to defeat Mapua, 25-7, 25-12, 25-15.

    Arian Angustia had 12 points, while Dona Mae Factor added nine, Clara Lozada, Charmille Belleza and Charlette Lorenzo each contributed eight markers for EAC.

    Only four players on the side of Mapua managed to score. Anna Perez had four markers, Precious Sedenio added three, Mary Santos 1 and Bea Aquino each had one point.

    The Lady Cardinals earned 25 points from the team errors of EAC.

    EAC now has a 4-1 slate, while Mapua absorbed its fifth straight loss (0-5).

    In men's action, the Generals downed the Cardinals, 25-14, 25-22, 25-14.

    Mojica finished with 26 points, while Hariel Doguna, Kerth Melliza and Sid Gerella each poured in nine markers for EAC, which bagged its fifth straight win. Philip Bagalay made 18 points for Mapua (4-1).
