DEFENDING champion Perpetual Help downed Jose Rizal University, 25-13, 25-12, 25-21, on Wednesday to remain unscathed in the 88th NCAA men's volleyball at The Arena in San Juan.
The Perpetual Help women’s squad also stayed unbeaten, taking only 47 minutes to defeat the Lady Bombers, 25-6, 25-16, 25-17.
Adam Daquer produced 12 points, while team captain Jay Dela Cruz, Edmar Sanchez, Rex Castro and Ralph Savellano had nine markers apiece, as the Altas kept their record spotless at 3-0.
"Pinaghahandaan namin every game, we always come to our games prepared," said Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar. "I told them never to be complacent and always play at the best of their skills."
Joshua Manzanas had nine points for JRU, which slid to the bottom of the standings with a 0-3 win-loss card.
Reigning women’s MVP Sandra delos Santos had 13 points, while April Anne Sartin and Rochel Ann Dela Paz chipped in 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Lady Altas.
Rosalie Pepito finished with 10 markers on eight attacks and two service aces for JRU, which holds a 0-3 card.
Meanwhile, San Beda teams escaped with five-set wins over Lyceum.
The Lady Red Spikers nipped Lyceum, 27-29, 20-25, 25-16, 25-13, 15-10, in women’s play.
Janine Marciano scored 25 points, Frances Molina added 23 on 16 hits, two block points and five service aces, and Coline Malana added 16 as the Lady Red Spikers improved to 2-1.
Kailyn Penamante had 11 points for LPU, which shares the cellar with JRU at 0-3.
The SBC Red Spikers, meanwhile, squeaked past Lyceum, 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 15-9.
Lovenzo Capate finished with 24 markers, while Gilbert Ablan added 20 and Alfie Mascarinas chipped in 11 for San Beda, which grabbed a share of the lead with Perpetual Help. LPU is winless in three games.
