UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help survived an error-prone match to beat Arellano University, 26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, and force a rubber match in the NCAA Season 93 men’s volleyball tournament on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
The decider of the best-of-three series is on Thursday.
“That is just 1-1 so I don't think nasa amin ang momentum, same naman ang pinaghahandaan namin,” said Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar.
Altas setter Warren Catipay orchestrated a well-balanced scoring for the Altas as five players finished in double figures — Ridzuan Muhali finished with 15 points, Ronniel Rosales and Joebert Almodiel with 13 markers apiece, skipper Rey Taneo with 11 and John Ramos 10.
Perpetual Help looked set for a straight-sets win but squandered a 21-12 lead in the third. Complacency showed up earlier, actually, for the Altas, allowing the Chiefs to come back from a 11-20 deficit.
“Sometimes kasi kahit kino-control mo talaga 'yung players natin, sa psychological, andun ‘yung too much complacency nila,” said Acaylar.
John Cabillan had 12 points, Kevin Liberato scored 12 and Christian Segovia added for Arellano.
