    Perpetual Help beats Letran to arrange playoff with EAC for No. 1 seeding in NCAA volleyball

    PERPETUAL Help clobbered Letran, 25-15, 25-22, 25-18, on Sunday to clinch a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinals of the 91st NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

    Skipper Bonjomar Castel and Rey Taneo, Jr. scored 11 apiece as the Altas wound up tied with the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals, the defending men's champions, on top on 8-1 win-loss slates.

    Perpetual Help and EAC clash in a playoff on Tuesday, with the winner playing either San Beda or Arellano U (5-4) and the loser taking on third seed St. Benilde (6-2).

    Reigning juniors titlist Perpetual Help downed Letran, 25-14, 25-14, 25-21, to arrange a playoff for the top seeding against Emilio Aguinaldo after the two ended up tied at No. 1 with identical 6-1 marks.

    Ivan Encila unloaded 13 hits, Conrad Ryuji Etorma scored 11 points and team captain Jody Margaux Pascual added 10 for the Junior Altas.

    The winner of the Perpetual-EAC playoff will face either Lyceum of the Philippines or San Sebastian, while the loser clashes with No. 3 Arellano U in the semifinals.

    The Perpetual Help women’s team made it a sweep for the day over Letran, scoring a 25-12, 25-23, 25-21, win to enter the Final Four with a 7-2 slate.
