UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help goes for the NCAA women’s volleyball title clincher when the Lady Altas take on the Arellano University Lady Chiefs on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
Game Two of the best-of-three title series is set at 11:30 a.m., with the Lady Altas looking to score a third straight title.
Perpetual Help won series opener on Friday, 27-29, 25-13, 25-16, 21-25, 15-9.
Coach Sammy Acaylar has a solid starting lineup led by Honey Tubino and reigning MVP Norie Jane Diaz, but is hoping to get significant contributions from the backups.
"Malakas kasi ang Arellano," he said. "Isa 'yan sa pinaka malakas na team. Buo sila."
"More on Tubino kasi kami, pero as a coach iniisip ko na hindi permanent ang first six ko, once na may magkamali sa kanila kukuha ako ng ibang tao," said Acaylar.
Arellano coach Obet Javier also acknowledges Tubino’s dominance, and he hopes his wards led by Menchie Tubiera, Danna Henson, Cristine Rosario and Shirley Salamagos would find a higher gear and force a Game Three.
"Nandoon 'yung maturity in Tubino, lumabas na at 'yung championship experience ng Perpetual andoon eh," he said. "Ipinakita nila 'yung pagiging kampeon."
Perpetual Help is actually looking to score twin titles as the Altas battle the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 1 p.m.
The Las Piñas-based squad won, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23, on Friday.
