PERPETUAL Help clinched a semifinal berth as it dominated Arellano University, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18 on Tuesday in the 88th NCAA women's volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
Honey Royse Tubino and April Anne Sartin had 18 points apeice, while Norie Jane Diaz added 10 for the Lady Altas, who scored their seventh win in eight matches.
The Lady Altas joined Emilio Aguinaldo College, which also has a 7-1 win-loss card, in the semifinals.
Perpetual Help registered 29 excellent sets, but had 38 team errors.
“Konting ayos ng set plays para magtuloy-tuloy ang magandang inilalaro ng mga bata,” said perpetual Help coach Jason Sapin. “Kulang pa sa galaw, parang pigil pa. Medyo konting bilis pa sa mga set plays.”
Menchie Tubiera had 10 points for the Lady Chiefs, who slid to joint fifth spot with san Beda College at 5-3.
In the other match, College of St. Benilde clobbered Jose Rizal University, 25-13, 25-14, 25-9, to move to fourth spot with five wins in seven games.
Jannine Navarro finished with 16 markers and Cindy Valencia contributed 11 for the Lady Blazers, who needed only 46 minutes to finish off the match.
St. Benilde won in all of the departments, producing 18 service aces against five of JRU, coming up with six blocks in contrast to three of the Lady Bombers and winning 34 attack points compared to 14 of the
Joanna Clemente had six points for the Lady Bombers, who finished the tournament with a 1-8 win-loss record.
