    Jan 14, 2014

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help moved a step closer to a third straight title, advancing to the semifinals with a 25-21, 12-25, 25-15, 25-21 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Tuesday in the 89th NCAA women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Altas improved their win-loss record to 7-2 and joined Arellano University (7-1) in the round of four.

Honey Tubino poured in 24 points, while reigning MVP Norie Jane chipped in 12 for Perpetual Help.

"Our hardwork in training paid off although nakita ko na medyo bumagsak yung laro ng mga players namin. Because may OJT (on-the-job-training) ’yung iba kaya hindi sila nakaka-attend ng practice,” said Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar, noting that the school prioritizes academics over athletics.

Charmille Belleza scored 14 points and Dona Factor added 10 for the Lady Generals, who dropped to the sixth spot at 5-4.

In the men's division, Perpetual Help romped to its 42nd straight win as it downed EAC, 25-22, 25-23, 25-10.

Ralph Joren and Edmar Sanchez each had 13 points, while Jay de la Cruz contributed 10 for the Altas, who only needed 70 minutes to end the lopsided match

The Las Piñas-based spikers are now 8-0 for the season, while EAC is running second at 7-2.

Howard Mojica came up with 14 markers, while Kerth Melliza made 10 for EAC.
