PAYMAYA secured the second outright semis berth in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, defeating Petro Gazz, 27-25, 25-23, 25-17, at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.
American import Tess Rountree had 19 points, while Grethcel Soltones scored 12 for the High Flyers, who improved to 4-2 and joined Creamline (5-1) in the semifinals.
Although PayMaya has one more match in the elimination round against BaliPure (3-3), the High Flyers hold a superior quotient even if the Water Defenders win in straight sets.
“May pros and cons ang pag pasok doon so maghihintay pa medyo matagal tagal ng kaunti ’yun,” said PayMaya coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Importante nasa semis na kami nag-aabang kami ng makakalaban namin,” he added.
The six remaining teams Petro Gazz, Pocari Sweat, BaliPure-NU, Tacloban, BanKo Perlas and Iriga-Navy will play another round with the top two teams completing the semis cast.
Ukranian imports Olena Lymareva-Flink and Anastasiia Trach scored 15 and 14 points, respectively for Petro Gazz.
The Angles saw their three-match win streak end and now hold a 3-4 win-loss record.
