PAU Soriano and Rosemarie Vargas took charge as a Creamline squad missing Alyssa Valdez kept its slate unblemished and earned a spot in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 victory over Power Smashers on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Soriano and Vargas scored 15 points apiece as Creamline won its fifth win in five matches and first without top hitter Valdez, who is training with the national women’s volleyball team in Japan.
Coleen Bravo also added 13 markers for the Cool Smashers, while Jia Morado had 62 of the team’s 64 excellent sets in a match that lasted one hour and 23 minutes.
“Yun ang pinakamaganda, they’re trusting each other and they’re confident with each other,” said Creamline coach Oliver Almadro.
“Creamline is not about Alyssa, it's about the team. We have to find a way and make the most of what we have,” he added.
The Cool Smashers fought back from 6-12 down in the first set and 13-19 behind in the second set.
The Power Smashers looked set to extend the match after taking a 22-20 lead before Soriano finished the match with five straight points.
“Of course syempre first time wala is Alyssa so sa umpisa you’re looking for your fire power but as we go along maiisip nila (players) kailangan na naming magtrabaho,” said Almadro.
Arellano University tandem of Jovelyn Prado and Regine Arocha had 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the Power Smashers, who dropped to 1-4.
