CHERRY Rondina and Patty Orendain downed Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Bang Pineda, 21-9, 21-8, on Saturday to complete a sweep of Pool C in the 2016 Philippine Super Liga beach volleyball Challenge Cup on Saturday at MOA Sands by the Bay.
The Foton pair, which already secured a quarterfinal slot last week, holds a 3-0 record. Rondina and Orendain downed Accel Quantum Plus’ Aileen Abuel and Princess Listana, 21-3, 21-7 and was handed a win when Mapua withdrew from the competition.
"In-enjoy lang po namin, nilabas lang namin ang natutunan namin sa ensayo kasi prinactice namin 'yun," said Rondina.
"Wala naman kaming secret, communication at teamwork lang talaga," added the 2015 UAAP beach volleyball champion for University of Sto. Tomas.
"Ang goal kasi talaga namin is enjoyin lang ang laro kasi alam namin na beterano na sila kaya nagfocus na lang kami sa depensa."
Maizo-Pontillas and Pineda are also moving to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 card. The Petron XCS pair scored its wins over Mapua and defeated Accel Quantum Plus.
Florence Madulid and Pauline Genido of Standard Insurance Navy A downed University of the East’s Angelica Dacaymat and Jasmine Alcayde, 21-8, 21-11.
Madulid and Genido topped Pool A with a 2-0 card. UE is winless in two matches.
