FIRST to go was Alyssa Valdez. Next was team manager Tonyboy Liao.
Now comes the news that longtime assistant coach Parley Tupaz is no longer with Ateneo's women's volleyball team, adding to the uncertainty over the Lady Eagles' campaign with less than a month before the UAAP season.
Tupaz, a former national player who saw action in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games, confirmed on Friday that he has left the Lady Eagles' nest just before the team left for a training trip to Thailand and Japan.
"Wala na ako sa Ateneo," Tupaz said. "Nagpaalam na ako bago pa sila pumunta sa Thailand at Japan para mag-ensayo."
Head coach Tai Bundit still accompanied the team in its overseas training along with Sherwin Malonzo, but the Thai coach's continued stay at Ateneo is also in doubt following the departure of longtime manager Liao.
"Baka nga last year na nya ito," Tupaz said. "Hindi natin masabi talaga eh. Basta ako, out na ako sa Ateneo."
Tupaz's exit means another unexpected change to an Ateneo team that will be looking to regain the championship from rival La Salle after ruling the league in Bundit's first two years in charge.
As it is, the Lady Eagles are already in transition after the graduation of three-time league MVP Valdez. Also out of the team are Amy Ahomiro and Mae Tajima.
The new-look Lady Eagles are now expected to be led by Joanna Maraguinot and returning Michelle Morente.
After ending his five-year stay at Ateneo, Tupaz, who joined the team during the time of Roger Gorayeb, said he is looking for fresh opportunities elsewhere.
"Ok na din kasi medyo matagal-tagal na din naman ako (sa team). Subukan ko naman na may iba namang gawin," he said.
