FORMER Thailand national team captain Patcharee Sangmuang has been signed by Power Smashers for the Open Conference of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Though the Open Conference is the all-Filipino tournament of the PVL, Power Smashers coach Nes Pamilar said Sangmuang is allowed to play under a league rule stating that foreigners who are permanent residents and hold an alien certificate of residence (ACR) are eligible.

The same league rule applies to New Zealand's Amy Ahomiro, a former Ateneo spiker who is now playing for Perlas.

"She has been living in the country since 2014 and she has an ACR to back that up. She goes back to Thailand from time to time but most of the year, she's here," said Pamilar in a statement.

The 39-year-old Sangmuang played for Thailand from 1997 to 2007 and played for club teams in China and Russia. She also played in the V-League for Letran, Cagayan Valley and Adamson.

Sangmuang played for Air Force as an import in the PVL Reinforced Conference.

The Power Smashers made it to the semifinals after finishing in second in the eliminations but their inexperience showed when they bowed to eventual champion Pocari Sweat.

"We need a leader like Pacharee in our team because all our players are still young," said Pamilar.
