UST coach Odjie Mamon fumes over Tigers uninspired effort in semis loss to FEU

Apr 19, 2017
UST coach Odjie Mamon was far from satisfied with his wards' efforts in the stepladder semis loss to FEU.

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas coach Odjie Mamon did not bother to hide his disappointment after the Tigers were booted out of the finals race in the UAAP Season 79 men's volleyball tournament.

The No. 4 seed UST was simply outclassed by Far Eastern University, 22-25, 25-27, 18-25, in the stepladder semifinals on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

“Masama sa loob siyempre, wala namang may gustong matalo ‘di ba?” said Mamon shortly after the loss.

The veteran mentor lamented his team’s lack of fighting spirit and complacency, apparently satisfied in reaching their short-term goal of moving ahead of La Salle for the general championship and improving from their seventh place finish last year.

“Nag-promise lang ako na No.1 (for the general championship) we will come ahead of La Salle and we will improve our ranking from last season,” said Mamon.

“So ayun, I think na-mindset na rin sa kanila kaya ‘di na sila lumaban the last two games, complacent na sila. Nakuha na (kasi) ang goal kaya ganoon,” he added.
