BELIEVE it or not, lightning struck twice for thrice-to-beat La Salle teams in the UAAP this season.

The top-seeded Lady Spikers' shocking defeat in the women’s volleyball finals to Ateneo was actually the second time a La Salle team lost in the finals after a sweep of the eliminations.

Just last November, La Salle’s women’s table tennis team also swept the elimination round only to fall to a University of the Philippines side that won thrice in the finals to capture the Season 76 crown.

That loss was the first time a team with thrice-to-beat advantage lost the crown since the format was introduced in the league in 2008.

Oddly enough, another La Salle team suffered the same fate on Saturday when the Lady Spikers dropped a 23-25, 24-26, 21-25 loss to the Lady Eagles in their winner-take-all match.

Before losing thrice to Ateneo, La Salle's spikers had won 30 games in a row dating back to last season.
