UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas coach Kungfu Reyes remained defiant despite losing one of his top players, Pam Lastimosa, for the coming UAAP women's volleyball season due to an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear.
The incoming fifth year spike tore her ACL during one practice session at UST gym almost a month ago and Reyes confirmed last year's Tigresses skipper is out for the season..
"Out for the season na si Pam," confirmed Reyes. "Pero nagte-therapy na rin siya ngayon."
Although Reyes admitted Lastimosa's injury is a major blow to the España-based squad's bid to regain lost glory in women's volleyball, the 37-year old coach does not want to dwell on the problem.
"Big loss si Pam," said the UST mentor. "Pero ganun talaga, it happens for a reason, temporary fall lang naman 'yan pero mas stronger kami pagbalik ni Pam for Season 79."
Expected to step up in Lastimosa's absence are seniors Mela Tunay and Jessey de Leon as well as incoming third year Ria Meneses and sophomores RJ Laure and Cherry Rondina.
UAAP women's volleyball tournament is set to start either late January or early February.
