NATIONAL University and University of the Philippines scored contrasting wins on Monday in the Spikers' Turf Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena.
The Bulldogs swept the Philippine Merchant Maritime School Mariners, 25-18, 25-20, 25-15, for their second win in as many matches.
The Fighting Maroons, meanwhile, edged National College of Business and the Arts Wildcats, 25-12, 27-25, 23-25, 25-27, 15-13, to also go 2-0 in the tournament.
Madzlan Gampong led the Bulldogs with 15 points, 11 coming from attacks, while Francis Saura added 13 points.
“Sana magtuloy tuloy lang yung ginagawa sa team, sana mas maging maayos pa yung opensa tsaka depensa namin,” NU head coach Dante Alinsunurin said.
Ram-j Pakingan had 12 points, Kelvin Balanga scored seven and Ronel Fortaleza added six points for the Mariners, who suffered back-to-back losses.
Alfred Valbuena led the Fighting Maroons with 23 points, 20 from attacks, while Julius Raymundo added 12 points.
Jason Canlas had 24 points and Jeffrey Jimenez added 15 for the Wildcats, who also now hold a 0-2 win-loss card.
The Bulldogs next face the La Salle Green Spikers, the Mariners battle the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, UP takes on University of Santo Tomas, and NCBA battles Ateneo.
