NATIONAL University and San Sebastian have allowed its players to take part in the national team tryouts, a week after coach Roger Gorayeb declared all players need to focus on the UAAP and NCAA campaigns.
Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. vice president Peter Cayco said he received messages from NU and San Sebastian officials expressing their support to the national squad. Cayco did not reveal which officials sent him the messages.
“They said they will support the tryouts because it is for the national team. Nakakatuwa,” said Cayco.
The three-day Manila tryouts end on Tuesday.
Gorayeb, coach of both the NU and San Sebastian women’s teams, earlier said he will not allow his players to join the tryouts since the UAAP season is approaching while the NCAA campaign is ongoing.

Santiago showed up for the tryouts at the Pasay campus of Arellano University, but didn’t join the drills.
“Even Kim Fajardo (La Salle) was present but she asked if she be excused in the drills. It’s fine with us. The important thing is they showed up for the tryout,” said Cayco.
The LVPI will next hold tryouts in Cebu and the Davao area (Tagum and Davao City).
