NATIONAL University gained a share of the lead in Group A in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference after a 25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 25-18 win over San Sebastian College on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
The back-to-back defending champion cruised to its second straight win (2-0) tied with Far Eastern University.
But NU coach Babes Castillo was far from satisfied with his wards’ performance.
“Siyempre, I always appreciate a win. It was a win, maganda ang result, but the way we did it, medyo hindi pa kami happy doon talaga. It goes to show na 'yung aming system needs more working on,” he said.
Aiko Urdas and skipper Jaja Santiago led the attack with 17 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs, who overcame scary incident on Princess Robles.
Robles twisted her left ankle in the third set with the Lady Bulldogs ahead, 15-7, and was stretchered off to the dugout.
NU fired from all angles (42-26 attacks) and imposed its might at the net (8-1 blocks) but had an equal number of service aces (11-11).
Jasmine Nabor orchestrated the Lady Bulldogs’ offense with 44 of the team’s 45 excellent sets.
Team captain Joyce Sta. Rita had 12 points for SSC, which dropped to 1-2.
SSC coach Roger Gorayeb missed the game due to a personal emergency.
Gorayeb, coincidentally, was NU's former coach before Castillo took over in May.
