JAJA Santiago feels a massive weight has been lifted off the NU Lady Bulldogs’ shoulders after ending a five-match streak and boosting their chances of reaching the semifinals in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated bottom team University of the East in straight sets, and Santiago was relieved to score their first win in the second round.
“Gumising na ang dragon, charot!” said team captain Jaja Santiago.
It was a huge relief for the team that led the first round with a 6-1 win-loss record.
“Sobrang bigat. Tipong kada-training, iniisip namin na, ’hindi, kaya natin 'to, kaya natin 'to.' Pero alam mo 'yun, parang may humihila sa'yo na, 'Wala na, wala na 'yang pag-asa,’” said Santiago.
The victory put the Lady Bulldogs a win closer to a return to the semifinals after missing the Final Four for two straight seasons.
NU will face semifinalist Far Eastern University on Sunday, April 15, and a win will formalize its entry in the Final Four.
“Pero nakikita mo naman sa bawat isa na wala talagang sumusuko, kahit minsan nagkaka-iyakan na kami,” said Santiago.
