NATIONAL University shook off a sluggish start and overcame University of San Carlos, 23-25, 25-17, 25-10, 25-20, for their third straight win in the 10th Shakey's V-League First Conference at the Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs regained composure after the first-set loss and never let-up, sweeping the next three sets for the win and a seat in the quarterfinals of the country’s premier women’s volleyball league.
“Sinasabi ko sa kanila nag-re-relax sila masyado,” said NU coach Edjet Mabbayad who chastised the Lady Bulldogs for their opening set loss.
“Lagi ko ni-re-remind na kahit sino ang kalaban i-treat as malakas. Hindi pwede ganon dahil isang mali lang, pwedeng mabago ang tempo ng laro, pwedeng lumipat ang momentum sa kabila kaya huwag lang mag-over confident kahit sino ang kalaban.”
Dindin Santiago led the Lady Bulldogs back to life starting the second set onwards. She came through with 12 spikes, two blocks, and three service aces.
Myla Pablo and Cai Nepomuceno added 13 and 11, respectively.
NU continuous to lead Group B with a 3-0 record as it joined Arellano (2-1) in the next round.
Methosheena Bate scored 15 points for the San Carlos Lady Warriors, who remained winless in three games. Chona Gesulga had 12 and guest player Abigail Praca 11.
