NATIONAL University coach Babes Castillo couldn’t wait to face La Salle anew come the second round of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
The outspoken mentor said he’s looking forward going up against the defending champions, who the Lady Bulldogs defeated in five-sets on February 18 during their first round meeting.
“Kanina nga sabi nga namin, kung bukas na ulit 'yung game, game na tayo. Let's bring it on,” said Castillo after NU defeated University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17, on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
But don’t get him wrong. The rookie mentor stressed his excitement is all part of the game, noting that going up against champion teams like La Salle and Far Eastern University is a good match for his team.
“Alam mo, La Salle, FEU, lahat ‘yan mga ka-batch ko 'yung mga coaches na 'yan. Hindi naman kami magkakaaway niyan, Galing kami sa iisang batch,” said Castillo, who steered the NU girls’ volleyball team to four straight UAAP titles.
NU is currently on top with a 6-1 win-loss record, it’s best start in four years, while FEU is at No.2, followed by three-peat seeking La Salle at third.
But Castillo reminded his players to always keep their guards despite being on top.
“What I'm telling them is kailangan handa tayo anytime,” he said. “I think 'yun 'yung attitude na ginagawa namin.”
