NATIONAL University coach Babes Castillo is not yet pressing the panic button despite a three-game losing skid in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
NU, a heavy favorite during the offseason, lived up to expectations as it finished the first round at the top with a 6-1 win-loss card.
But luck seemed to have left the Lady Bulldogs in the second round as they remained winless in three games.
“No panic. If you can take the best, you have to take the worst. ‘Yun ang tingin ko,” said Castillo.
“Of course, nothing (to worry about). No problem, how great it may be, may solusyon ‘yan,” he added.
Castillo, however, felt that NU’s past is still haunting them.
Just like the past two seasons, the Lady Bulldogs were also favored to make it to the Final Four but succumbed to a late-season slump.
“Somehow, their past is haunting them,” said Castillo. “Nahihirapan sila tanggalin ‘yun. They still remember that eh. ‘Yung vibe, alam mo yun?”
The outspoken mentor, who was appointed as head coach June last year, hopes that they can bring back the same aggressiveness and drive before it’s too late.
NU will face University of Santo Tomas on Sunday, University of the Philippines on April 4, University of the East on April 8 and Far Eastern University on April 15.
“All I'm trying to do is to try to give them a different perspective. Dadating ‘yung time pipiliin nila ‘yan. I hope soon ano, I hope soon,” he said.
