NATIONAL University overcame a tough challenge from Adamson University, recovering from a set down to win in four and record its 12th win in 13 outings in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Bulldogs, already assured of the No. 2 spot in the semifinals, had a slow start before pulling off a 15-25, 25-23, 25-16, 34-32 win.
It was the 10th straight win for NU, enabling them to stay close to unbeaten league leader La Salle (12-0)
Dindin Santiago poured in 21 points for the Lady Bulldogs, Myla Pablo and Carmina Aganon had 14 each, and Jaja Santiago chipped in with 12.
Adamson had a chance to send the match to a fifth set as NU failed to convert four match points, before Lady Falcon Faye Guevara committed a double touch violation that sealed the win for the Lady Bulldogs.
"Ang positive side lang dito nakita namin na hindi bumibitiw ang mga bata lalo na sa crunch time at ang negative naman ay hindi maganda ang blocking at floor defense namin kaya kailangan pa namin mag-improve ng husto," said NU coach Edjet Mabbayad.
Bhebs Pineda came up with 25 points for the Lady Falcons, Mayeth Zapanta had 15 and Marleen Cortel scored 11 for Adamson, which remained in joint fourth with Far Eastern University with a 6-7 record.
FEU earlier bowed to lowly University of the Philippines, giving Adamson a chance to take solo fourth spot and boost its semifinal chances.
But the Lady Falcons failed to build on the first-set win and committed a bunch of errors in crucial moments.
