NU, Ateneo sweep separate foes to remain on top in UAAP men's volleyball

NATIONAL University and Ateneo nailed separate breezy victories to stay on top of the UAAP men's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

By improving to a superior 8-1 win-loss record, both teams secured at least a playoff for a Final Four slot.

The Bulldogs made quick work of University of Santo Tomas 25-21, 25-16, 25-22 to score their seventh straight victory.

Bryan Bagunas led the Bulldogs with 15 points, while Kim Malabunga added 14 markers.

Francis Saura chipped in 10 points for the Bulldogs, who extended the misery of the slumping Tigers.

UST, which was paced by Josh Umandal's 15 points, dropped its fifth straight match and tied Adamson with a 3-6 tally.

Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles clobbered Adamson 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 in Wednesday's opening game.

Marck Espejo was all over the court, churning out 23 points including four blocks and three service aces for Ateneo.

Ron Medalla added 15 points.

Paolo Pablico was the only Falcon who finished in double figures with 18 points including two blocks
